Check your caption on every network.

Paste a caption. See how long each network counts it, whether it fits, what people see before “more” and how many hashtags and emoji it has. It counts the way our team does for every post we write.

Networks change where they cut a caption, so treat the cut as a guide. The hashtag counts are our team's rule, not the networks' limits.

02 In short

How the networks count

Most count every character

Letters, spaces, line breaks and emoji each count, in English, Urdu or any other script.

X counts its own way

On X a link counts as 23 characters however long it is, and emoji and Chinese, Japanese or Korean characters count as two.

The feed cuts it short

Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook and Pinterest show the start of a caption and hide the rest behind “more”. Most people only read that part.

03 Checklist

Captions that get read

The rules our copywriter follows on every post.

  • Put the point in the first line: it is often all people see before “more”.
  • One idea and one action a post. Say what to do next: book, order, visit, message.
  • Hashtags at the end, a few that are specific to the post, never a wall of them.
  • Emoji as seasoning, not decoration: one or two that add meaning.
  • Write it for the network it goes to. A LinkedIn caption can explain; a TikTok one should be short.
